MARTUMILLI HOUSE COMPETITION
The design for Martumili house is born of a virtual tree and the earth that sustains it. A tree which informs the structure, provides ventilation and light and directs the whereabouts of the artists and visitors. The tree tells the story of how people under one roof relate to each other in the creative process. The earth that fills the walls is taken from each of six communities of the Martu people. It is their land reconstructed as a sign and symbol of one people united. The large deck and roof share the same form linking the various structures between them. It enfolds the landscape with in, allowing all to be a part of the Martumili Artists.
